The evening was beautiful as the sky turned dark… kinda funny how the lighted construction cranes actually makes the shot look interesting.

The organisers did a great job with the invites… We do a lot of events but I’m impressed with this one. A lot of familiar faces and A-list guests turned up for a night of drinking and mingling. Guests were given photocards as a memento to help remember the night with old and new friends.

The lighting was great around the area for photography as well. Of course our new cameras helped to bring out the ambient lights, which would have been quite impossible to catch during events.

There was Brazilian music, models & fire breathers to entertain the guests.

The unique part about the Pool Grill is being able to hold a fashion show right in the water.

And they could go right up to the guests as well.

The brazilian ambassador was invited as the VIP to grace the event.

Some guests made themselves comfortable at the daybed area where they can dip their feet into the cooling pool

Our good friend Jimmy T. dropped by.. catch him in "The Showdown" on TV.. I saw the trailers on Channel 5 that day and laughed my guts out..

The weather this season is actually quite humid, but I guess being beside the pool and being able to cool your feet in the pool helps It was a great night catching up with a lot of friends and adding lots of new friends on facebook!

I was late for the fashion show but from the photos, Pois Boutique seemed to have displayed some really interesting pieces from their collection.

The headlights of the A4 had the same design as the R8.. very elegant.

Many posed with the models and the cars and received their instant photocards with the Pois & Audi Logo.

Many took turns to have a first hand feel inside the Audi A4..

And of course some of my friends who I always get to meet at the events

They look great and everyone went crazy picking off their photos which we stuck on a huge photowall.

Those who know me have always seen me in conservative outfits. I thought that since the stylists were there, I got Kovit to create a style for me. (Nina says I’ll never wear it.. hmm.. we’ll see)

I distinctly remember the first time I had my hands on my dad’s camera when I was just about 4 years old. Seeing images shift in and out of focus as I turned the lens fascinated me beyond my realm of understanding. Hearing the shutter trip was an exceptional feeling that lingered in my memory for the next 15 years. Being unable to financially support film costs & development, I decided to wait for digital technology. When the first digital camera delivered resonable colour reproduction at 640*480, I bought my first set. Since then, it has been a non-stop pursuit of digital imaging, pushing the limits of digital technology and photographic knowledge. Having no formal training, learning the ropes was a process of trial & error. Fortunately digital technology shortened the learning curve without incurring hefty development costs.

My first serious hobbyist camera was the Nikon Coolpix 950 which featured full manual control at 2 megapixels which no other cameras within the price range comes close in 1998. After doing intensive research, I few to Tokyo to lay my hands on the first set, 4 months ahead of availability in Singapore. Since then I’ve also used successors like the Coolpix 990 & the 4500. The swivel design together with the BSS (Best Shot Selector) mode provided remarkable flexibility which even the professional DSLRs are not able to provide. The BSS feature also contributed to the strong macro capabilities of the Coolpixes, allowing uncomplicated setups to produce stunning macros & close-ups.

The Nikon D100 marked my foray into the world of serious photography. Being a nature photography enthusiast, I decided to bite the bullet and acquired a AF-S Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8 lens. This formidable combination opened up new areas of photography like sports & portraits. The speed of the F2.8 lens allowed quick focusing and beautiful photos even in less than optimal lighting conditions. The 200mm end of the lens produced flattering portraits & a beautiful background blur (bokeh).

Nikon became the natural choice when the F&B publication company and events company I worked for required a complete system to cater to their range of photography needs which included outdoor/studio food photography, portraits & live event photography. The Nikon D1X professional body coupled with the PC Micro-Nikkor 85mm F/2.8D was an excellent performer in food photography. During a high profile F&B event (in 2003), we demonstrated “live photography” even before the Nikon WT-1 wireless transmitter was available. A Nikon D100 was cabled via USB to a wireless notebook in a backpack transmitting photos to another notebook which is hooked up to a projector. I wrote scripts in windows and actions in Adobe Photoshop to handle the workflow which automatically resized, watermarked and sent a copy to the projector and a live website at the same time. It was instant gratification and talking point as guests witnessed photos immediately gets projected on the big screen.

The arrival of the D2H pushed the envelope of digital technology, the response of the camera surpassed human psychomotor ability and the incredible buffer meant I never had to miss an opportunity due to camera limitations. The versatality of the D2H together with the iTTL flash system as well as the WT-1 wireless transmitter opened up new avenues of comercial opportunities The quality of the 4.0 megapixel sensor allowed me to print 3m wide advertising banners to a happy clientele.

As a happy Nikon user, I continue my pursuit of continual learning & sharing, with each mistake comes a new learning opportunity. I will however, miss BSS.
