Three of our photographers were stationed at our mobile studio setup with a luxurious-looking couch as the centre piece and flowing golden drapes as a backdrop. Guests were invited to pose as our photographers captured three different angles of them at the same time. Each set of three shots were printed in film-strip format. Upon receiving them, the guests raved about the unique print-outs, and they totally loved them! It was a great and sparkling night throughout. Check out the photos below!

Could you also have guessed that these photos are taken with a mobile phone? Willy was the featured photographer for the launch of LG Renoir, the hot new 8 megapixel camera phone. On the day of the launch, our crew went there with our mobile lighting to take pictures of the invited guests. All photos that you see here were taken with LG Renoir.

It was also LiveStudios first ever MyStamps job. Not only were the introduction of the stamps a successful and overwhelming response for LiveStudios, more importantly, it brought back the nostalgic feelings from the past, 70years ago, the day that Mr Chia and Mrs Chia tied the knot. 70 years down the road, everything else had changed, but the beauty of the love the couple shared remained evidently present till this very day.

As we were thrilled and happy for his nomination, we were also happy to be involved in the Martell events that are on-going currently. The Martell Award is an annual effort to give recognition to 10 talents who are on the path of success and rising above. We often forget who was behind the camera when we look at a beautiful picture. However, Willy Foo is one photographer who deserves all the credit he gets. Not only is the 33-year old an award-winning photographer, his effort in promoting his passion in Singapore is commendable. He regularly judges photography and conducts workshops for budding photographers. We find out what the man behind the lens is like.

Q: What makes a good photograph?

A: A good photograph should evoke an emotion or carry a message. It could be sharing a grandmother’s joy of playing with her grandson or stimulating a thought        about preserving the beauty of nature.

Q: What makes a good photographer?

A: Other than being technically capable, a good photographer needs to communicate with both the subject of the photo and the viewer who looks at it.

Q: What is your most memorable photoshoot?

A: It was a shoot in a nature reserve in Seychelles, on an island called Cousin Island. There are thousands of birds on this little island and I took more good photos in that one hour than I ever did in my past four years of natue photography.

Q: Who is the most famous personality you’ve shot – and any secrets to share about him?

A: The one that probably struck me the most was Jackie Chan. I’ve shot him on two occasions and he’s always very friendly, with no airs at all. a very likeable person indeed.

Q: Do you like being photographed?

A: While I’m more comfortable being behind the camera, I know better than to shy away from the camera when people is pointing at me because people who sun the camera almost always spoil a potentially nice shot.

Q: There’s a rising popularity in photography among the youth here – how do you feel about that?

A: It’s fantastic that more people are picking up photography. It’s an easily accessible hobby and does not need to be expensive. I’ve started a “Singapore Photographers” group on facebok and currently have about 2,300 members. We have weekly contests, monthly gatherings and a very active community who’s there to learn and share in the spirit of helping each other.

Q: Who motivates you? Who inspires you?

A: Al Reis and Jack Trout, who wrote the infamous 22 Imutable Laws of Marketing. The book was published in 1993 but the concepts are still applicable today.

Q: What does the future hold for you?

A: I am planning to expand my range of services and I’m also starting to conduct courses for photography.

Q: What is your favorite genre of photography?

A: I would say travel photography. You are in a different environment and everything is new. You get fresh inspiration and you start to see things differently as well.

Q: What does it mean to be a Rising Personality, and what’s the best way to drink your Martell Cognac?

A: Its an affirmation that I’m on the right track and that I should’nt rest on my laurels. Try Martell with green tea. Its a pleasant mix.

LiveStudios had a fantastic year with a total of 723 photoshoots in 2008. We look forward to a more challenging year ahead and wish all our clients, partners and friends a good year ahead.

The first day of 2009 started with a wedding lunch using our LiveSMS services. We’ve made improvements on the LiveSMS service by being able to control the size of the scrolling display at the bottom of the screen as well as having instructions printed on every table at the wedding.

Martell held the event at Old School and totally transformed the hall into a posh area befitting of the Martell label.

2 of our photographers were assigned to cover the event with David my business partner trying his hands on the camera as well – some decent results, considering he was fairly new behind the camera. Here’s a photo he took of me and Filmmaker & Photographer Nicholas Chee.

The awardees posed for a group photo with the head honcho of Martell. There are 10 awardees but Tim Nga, the actor couldn’t make it due to an overseas assignment.

After the trailer video introducing each of us played on the screen, a spotlight behind the screen turned on casting a silhouette of the awardees as the screen is raised.

We had a good laugh backstage having to see our own faces literally inches away from the screen and we joked about how odd we looked up close. When the screen came up, we were kind of relieved as it was rather warm being in our suits with no ventilation.

The trophy was rather unique in the shape of a teardrop, a nice variation from the usual diamond/rectangular trophies that are usually given.

They also revealed the wall after the awardees were announced with a profile summary written. It was the first time we were seeing the profile as well.

Martell (of course) was served throughout the night. The Martell Green Tea was my favourite.

There were many photographers around and everyone had lots of fun taking photos with their friends.

I would like to congratulate all the other awardees of the Martell Rising Personalities Award. Hope you guys had as much fun as I did.

Renowned makeup artist Clarence Lee & hair stylist David Gan were among the entourage to make the guests look their best.

Mattias, high-end jewelry designer team head, was our hospitable host and made sure we were well taken care of.

We were treated with sumptuous spreads of food every meal.

I even gave a crash course on photography and here’s what one of the guests took of me while relaxing along the beach. Not too bad

I’m no food expert but this lobster tasted fabulous!

Here we are preparing to leave for a fund raising fashion show for the Elton John AIDs foundation in Monaco.

The drive from Cannes to Monaco took an hour and a half and we met the prince of Monaco at the entrance to the show.

The Monaco Grand Prix was scheduled on that weekend, and while we would not be in Monaco on that Sunday due to impossible traffic, we were lucky to see some of the F1 drivers play their part for charity by strutting their stuff on the catwalk.

One of the fund raising items was Elton John’s Piano, which was autographed by many other celebs like Norah Jones as well.

It was a nice and cool night in Monaco and we ended up at about 11pm to head back to Cannes.

Next day was shopping day as the guests split up into small groups to visit their favourite labels.

And lunch again.. (note: I’m definitely going to put on weight going at this rate).

We were also invited to one of the Movie Premiers, a whole horde of visitors come to Cannes every year to catch glimpses of celebrities as they walk down the red carpet.

Photographers lined the sides as well shouting to get the attention of guests and celebrities to pose for them.

We visited Saint Tropez the next day, known for it’s nice beaches. However it was drizzling and we just strolled along some of the shops.

The guests were also treated to a private viewing by Chopard of their collection.

Dinner was absolutely fabulous!! Again I’m not the best food critic but I was working in a top F&B consultancy a few years back and the level of service and attention to detail definitely impressed me.

The crab risotto was heavenly.

And each of their dishes had very interesting presentations, like ‘The Snails’ which were served in an eggshell container.

The most interesting dish was probably ‘The Strawberry’ which was served within a sugar ball.

They would then pour the sauce which melts part of the sugar ball and then top it off with ice cream. Yummy..

It was a good break from my daily routines, not having to bring tons of equipment around to do Live Printing, Projection etc.. and it was great fun with wonderful company. And yes.. being stuffed with food and more food! Writing this on the plane now on the way back to Singapore touching down at 7am and I’ve got a talk to give at 11am. Should get some sleep… Ciao!!

We adapted our popart program to keep the same colours and look and results came out quite pleasing.

Team VISA has been holding a couple of roadshows garnering support for Team Singapore for the Beijing Olympics 2008. A large board was setup and photocards were pasted to form the shape of Singapore on the board.

This round, Team Singapore visited Anglican High and the students wrote their well-wishes on blue boards and got a photo taken and printed as a photocard for them to bring home to show their friends and parents. An extra copy would also get pasted on the photowall.

Some of the Team Singapore players also posed with their supporters.

A few artistic ones took to drawing something more attractive to show their support.
